Nikki Catsouras: Accident And Death

  • The accident was so horrible that the police were not allowing her parents to identify her dead body. The officials around there were in shock after seeing the accident scene. 
  • Christos Catsouras left the home for his work after mid-day meal. After the 10-15 minutes, Her mother saw that Nikki Catsouras was going out with her father’s Porsche 911 Carrera. She tried to stop her but Nikki ignored her mother and left. 
  • By the time approx 1:38 PM, she was driving on 241 toll road in the lake forest.
  • She was driving the car at a very high speed of 100 miles per hour (160 km/hour).
  • Nikki was trying to overtake a Honda Civic. She lost control over the car. Her car crashed into the toll booth there. No one was present at that toll booth at that time. She died on the spot. Her death was a big loss for her family but there was something worse to come. 

Nikki Catsouras Death Photographs

CHP (California Highway patrol) took photographs of the Nikki Catsouras accident site as a part of official procedure set by the traffic rules. These photographs were circulates to other people and they went viral. This happened unintentionally by the two officers of CHP. Aaron Reich and Thomas O’Donnell, agreed that they sent the photographs to their email to see later as the accident was very big. One of them also said that he sent those pictures to 4 other people he knew. But, those pictures went so viral on the internet. Nikki’s parents discovered those photos online. People were mocking her. Some people even mailed those photos to members of Catsouras family with very cheap comments. They mocked her by captioning those photos as “hey dad!!” , “I’m alive dad!!” “Woohoo dad!!” . 

The Catsouras family doesn’t like the public behaviour. They were get traumatize. Her family was upset due to the loss of their girl and now this cyberbullying also make them mentally disturb. They decided to file a legal lawsuit against those CHP employees who were responsible for all this. 

Family’s Reaction Against CHP 

  • Nikki’s family decided to file a legal lawsuit against those CHP employees who were responsible for all this. 
  • They CHP employees even tried for the complete removal of Nikki Catsouras photographs from the internet. However the photographs were remove from many websites but complete removal from the internet was not possible. 
  • Both the employees of CHP are terminate from their jobs. 
  • The fight was continue legeally for years and came to a conclusion in the beginning of 2012.

The settlement between the Catsouras family and California Highway Patrol (CHP) took place on January 30, 2012. Catsouras’ family receive a compensation amount of $2.37 million and the spokeswoman of CHP said that with any amount of compensation, the loss to the Catsouras family could not be recover.

By using digital gadgets the cyberbullying is bullying and harassing people’s. This happens in various ways. People make videos or edit photographs of any individual to mock them. They upload the such content to social media applications. Sometimes, people blackmail others using such morphed content.

It is very dangerous for people’s. It gives mental trauma to the victims. Sometimes the person who face it, commit suicide.
